A London School of Economics report revealed that 90% of UK children aged between 8 and 16 years have unintentionally accessed pornography, mainly whilst doing their homework.
Another independent survey also revealed that 1 in 4 UK adults, including 1.4m women, downloaded images from on-line pornography websites.
The effect is that Relationship Agency’s report that up to 40% of couples believe that pornography has contributed to their difficulties and in 2007, an article in The Daily Mail attributed a 20% increase in sex attacks committed by children to the rise in availability for Internet pornography.
With these statistics we have to recognise the urgent need for greater protection. Many parents are not as technically adept as their children and cannot watch over their every move on the Internet. In addition pop-up adverts and fake links from seemingly safe websites are the biggest threat to continued use of the Internet.
